Learning Philosophy

Respectful relationships between children, educators, families and caregivers are central to the way we communicate with and value one another. We support and develop partnerships with families to share in the nurturing and education of their children. We see families as their child’s first teacher and welcome their interest and involvement in our programs. We believe that each child, family and educator is unique and we honour diversity and celebrate differences in all aspects of our community.

We believe that building a sense of belonging between the community, children and educators is an integral part of our curriculum. When we feel as though we belong to a community, it optimises our social and emotional learning abilities. We value building a community where children are visible, valued and respected.

With positive supportive guidance, and within fair limits, all children can develop autonomy, integrity, self-regulation and a sense of responsibility.

At Bayview Community Preschool, we believe that learning through play is essential to children’s well being. Play is both fun and empowering, providing spontaneous hands-on, stimulating, relaxing, comforting and challenging opportunities. We offer an unhurried environment with meaningful and authentic experiences.

Our connection with the natural world is integral to our work. Children naturally want to play outside and find peace, inspiration and beauty in nature. Having the opportunity to explore the lands of Jericho through all seasons, may inspire a respect for the natural world around them. A deep connection to nature is critical in developing lifelong respectful, positive relationships to our environment and to ensuring a more sustainable future.
