Coming into Winter means plenty of rain and a mix of snow! Please dress your child in extra layers and winter boots. Pack extra clothes and gloves for wet, rainy days. We will need to call you to pick up your child or bring them a change of dry clothes if they’re unprepared for the weather and cold

Welcome to the team,
Ms. Gill and Ms. Kylie.
We are pleased that Ms. Kylie, who has been a valued member of our preschool for many years, will be taking on the role of Early Childhood Eduaction Assistant at QEA from Monday - Wednesday. Ms. Gill (below) will teach the outdoor program on Thursday and Friday's at Jericho.
I have been working with children outdoors and in the classroom for the last fifteen years. I completed my masters degree in Coaching Science at UBC where I studied the importance of variety (as opposed to volume) in the development of motor skills. I had the pleasure of completing my teacher training in New Zealand where I spent every spare moment in the ocean. In New Zealand I learned that schools are made by people, and that groups can be more powerful than circumstance. As an undergraduate I completed a science degree at a liberal arts school on an athletic scholarship. From this paradox, I discovered systems and patterns, I come to education with this perspective. In nature, the science and art department are one and the same. I see children as curious and capable, as an instructor my role is to remove what constrains them. In return they make me laugh, often muddy, usually soaking and always, they teach me too.
Nourish and Flourish
Backpack Buddies is a registered Canadian charity based in North Vancouver, B.C. Growing children require regularly available food, but many B.C. families struggle to put food on the table every day. That’s why we help fill the weekend hunger gap - a time when children go without the support of school breakfast and lunch programs - by providing meals and snacks for the weekend directly to those who need them. We recognize that a child who receives a bag of food from Backpack Buddies may not get anything else to eat all weekend, so our priority is to ensure the bags of food help our kids get through the weekend without going hungry. Every bag we pack costs $20 and includes nine meals and snacks to last the weekend and beyond.
Warmly,
