Covid-19 Update

As restrictions begin to ease and we move towards an end-emic, the preschool is awaiting further guidance from Public Health, this is expected around March 12th. Presently we will not be relaxing our no symptoms policy for children attending.

However, if your child has been sick, completed the 5 day isolation and has a negative antigen test, but has 1 remaining symptom (a dry cough) they can return to the classroom.

This means, if your child has a residual or lingering cough, they will be able to attend provided they are otherwise well enough and comfortable to do so. Kleenex is provided in the classroom, we ask you to discuss the importance of using a tissue to clean their nose and then washing their hands with your child prior to their return. Staff are here to support your child with this as needed.

We request families to continue exercising diligence in their daily health check and keep children home if they are feeling unwell, or if household members have symptoms.

With regard to our mask policy, staff will continue to wear a face covering of their choice whilst inside the preschool with children. They will have the option to remove their facial covering when outdoors.

We no longer require parents and caregivers to wear masks outside at drop off or pick up. However, you will still require a face covering to come inside the classroom.

Finally, as children are no longer required, by federal or provincial law, to quarantine on returning from international travel your child will be able to return to preschool upon your return from a vacation as long as they are symptom free.

We will provide a further update after March 12th 2022.

What we are up to

  • (Gardening Mentorship Program:) Madame Chantal, the Grade 2 teacher at the QEA has invited our children to work with and learn from her students. We are now helping to prepare her garden beds with fresh soil that was delivered by truck. Seeds are being planted this month:)

  • Tree planting at Jericho will begin Mid March as well and children will get a chance to steward and give back to the land they know deeply and love

  • There is an in-depth animal project underway, where children are exploring animal habitats, behaviors and ecological restoration, this includes a look into the depths of the Ocean and intertidal zone as well (Beaver, Turtle...)

  • Children will begin prepping for the Garden at the QEA, preparing a worm compost and learning all about healthy soil, seeds and growth

  • An in-depth study of Bees will be taking off this Spring and children get to see Ms Charlotte in her fully working Bee suit!

From our Teachers' Bookshelf

  • Planting a Rainbow - By Lois Ehlert

  • The Tiny Seed - By Eric Carle

  • I Ate Sunshine for Breakfast - By Michael Holland

  • The World Needs More Purple People - By Kristen Bell and Benjamin Hart

(These books can be found at our local Kidsbooks for curbside pickup)

Spring is soon upon us

Children can lighten their layers and leave their winter boots at home but we still ask that children wear their rain boots and rain pants as it is still lovely and muddy out there :) Register Now for Nature School this Spring :) It's not too late for current families to join the Nature Program at Jericho. Monday PM class (12:15 - 2:45) has 3 spots left! This is a great chance to get to know the program :)

With spring in our hearts and mud on our boots,

Your Bayview Community Teachers
